kalyan: FIR against two IAS agents, KDMC staff for illegal construction in Kalyan | News from Thane

KALYAN: An FIR has been filed against 18 people, including five former municipal commissioners of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), 11 planning department officers, and a builder and an architect for allegedly authorizing the development of a 23-story building in violation of the rules.
Bazarpeth Police here registered the case against former commissioners Govind Rathod, Ramnath Sonawane, SS Bhise and E Ravindran and Govind Bodke who are both IAS officers, developer Harakchand Jain, architect Anil Nirgude and the 11 municipal officials, including Surendra Tengale, Raghuvir Shelke, Ravi Rao, Maruti Rathod, late Thursday on instructions issued on January 18 by the Kalyan Magistrate’s Court.

KDMC bosses and planners are accused of colluding with the developer and allowing the redevelopment of a property in violation of the rules from January 2004. The project is the 23-storey Vastusankalp Punyoday Skylounge near the chowk Ahilyabai from Kalyan.
All 18 were convicted under sections 420, 418, 415, 460 (cheating and burglary), 448 (trespassing) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and under sections 9 and 13 of the prevention of corruption. No one has been arrested yet.
Arun Gidh, a former corporal, had approached the police with evidence in the case. Denied, he had moved First Class Judicial Investigating Judge (JMFC) Sonali Raul, who on January 18 ordered the police to file an FIR. “When I approached the local police with the complaint, they didn’t take the matter seriously. I approached the court, which finally gave me justice,” Gidh told TOI.
Gidh had alleged that developer Jain failed to obtain proper consent from 137 rental property owners in Manik’s old building before obtaining permission for redevelopment. The developer also got unfair favors on the Floor Area Index (FSI) from former KDMC Commissioners and City Planning officials from 2004 to 2021.
“I decided to fight against injustice when the building appeared in the neighborhood from which I was elected corporator several times and I discovered that the developer had violated several standards during construction,” said Gidh.
Narendra Patil, Senior Police Inspector at Bazarpeth Police Station, said: “The case has been registered by court order and we will collect all the required evidence before taking any further action.”
